Bittersweet

One bitter winter, while living in New England, I found hidden treasure in a landscape of white. My color-starved eyes and I were out on a walk, when the aptly named “Bittersweet” (Celastrus scandens) scattered gems across my path. Blazing rubies on tangles of blue bark. Minute but mighty. Glowing in the snow.
